BEAUTIFUL BATH

I love Bath, it’s such a beautiful city, mainly because it has some of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the UK. I’ve visited so many times and yet every time I go, I find new inspiration.

Last weekend, I visited with friends and had the pleasure of staying in the most wonderful house with a very special hostess. We were spoilt rotten! On Saturday, while everyone else went off to the rugby, I took the opportunity to explore familiar places I hadn’t visited for over 5 years!

St Michael's Church, Bath

If you’ve never visited Bath, it’s nestled in the heart of Somerset, surrounded by rolling hills and lush green fields. It’s a fairly small city, very walkable (though with a few hills!). Bath on a match day is a lively, buzzing place. With a large student population, it’s brimming with boutique shops, independent coffee spots, and restaurants. Famous for its natural thermal springs, the Roman baths, Jane Austen, and its signature honey coloured stone buildings, Bath is well worth a visit.

The city is a living canvas of architectural history, where so many of the buildings and streets offer a glimpse into a bygone era. In some parts, it truly feels like stepping back in time! Bath is renowned for its exquisite Georgian architecture, offering the perfect blend of classical beauty, elegant proportions, and timeless design details. Of course, there are elements of more modern architecture, some much more successful than others!

I am always captivated by the grand townhouses, sweeping crescents, and intricate facades, all featuring stunning front doors. I’m always curious about what lies behind those doors! How these homes work for modern living and how each one is unique, even though many share similar floor plans. A lot of hypothetical house shopping happens in my mind as I walk around some of its most iconic streets!

The Circus, Bath

I also made a beeline for the beautiful Berdoulat interior design store, which I have had on my radar for far too long. Then a visit to No. 1 Royal Crescent, which is a beautiful museum showcasing an interpretation of a high society home and its interiors in its original form, including the servant’s areas. It is so interesting, especially the bold use of colour, pattern and furniture. Much more vibrant than you would expect from the many period dramas we have seen in film and TV. The Gerogian’s loved colour. Finally, I walked back to Bath’s bustling Milsom Street for contemporary interior stores and familiar British stores housed in some stunning buildings.

I had such an inspiring day, Bath is a city that radiates charm and beauty, with such a vibrant, fun atmosphere. It’s a great place to visit.
